Meeting Held with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Representatives in SBMU
On Wednesday, March 5, 2014 a meeting was held at SBMU between the SBMU International Affairs Office Director Professor Gharehbaghian, Ms. Zandi, the SBMU International Affairs Office Deputy, and Médecins Sans Frontières’ (MSF) [Physicians Without Borders] representatives, Delphine Leterrier, MSF Head of Mission in Iran, Dr. Olga Em, MSF South Tehran Project Coordinator, Ms. Elham Mir Aghazadeh, the MSF Country HR& finance Coordinator, Head of Tehran Office. Following the official greetings by Professor Gharehbaghian, he briefed the guests about the SBMU history and present condition and activities, medical treatment centers and number of the academic staff. After that, Delphine Leterrier, MSF Head of Mission in expressed her pleasure in being hosted by SBMU, and described about the MSF activities in Iran, and reported about MSF activities which had begun since 1980 following Roodbar and Manjil earthquakes; and then in Bojnoord, Birjand, Zarand & Bam earthquakes, MSF had provided clinical and nursing aids to the people in need. She further added that MSF has continued its activities in Mashhad in a fulltime format beginning in 1995. The MSF renders free- of- charge services to those in risk of addiction, hepatitis, AIDS, & tuberculosis, as well as rendering consultation services in medicine, GYN, psychiatry, and psychology. The MSF representatives in Iran asked for collaborations and interactions with SBMU in providing volunteer physicians and nurses, and holding short-term workshops.
Professor Gharehbaghian, while welcoming the invitations and suggestions by the MSF representatives, expressed the SBMU readiness through a memorandum.
